second life is all sunshine and rainbows

some of you may know i consider myself "half gay." ok, now you all do. anyway, i LOVE rainbows. have my whole life too. whomever is now thinking to themselves "Rainbows, I hate rainbows..." you're a bad person!! i started my rainbow obsession on second life purchasing an awesome set of Rainbow Brite boots from Love Kitty that have to be the best available. if target sold rainbow brite boots irl i would buy them and never take them off until May. anyway, the boots begot need for an outfit, and one outfit would leave me feeling unsatisfied in quality so i've been on epic quests for the perfect rainbow brite costume since then. in the meantime, however, there is a golden pot at the end of it full of rainbow shit all over the grid, and here's some of the stuff i've found recently.

lunchboxes and boy tois

so, i've been walking around in the bathing suit from a couple days ago and decided it made a good point at least in my head it makes sense that i am wearing lingerie because i have no clothes!!$&%^ err, i lost all my good ones. well. not even true. but i'm still being petulant. and expressing it in my pixel garb. so, i made my title "I Need Clothes" for a while to further the cause, and while i have clothing i'm going to post later today for very good reason, i fully intend to continue wearing lingerie bathing suits and latex gear until i get into a better e-state of e-mind about the inventory loss (will it ever happen?). however, it's hard to be so fussy and upset when there's hundreds of gifts being showered upon me every minute of every hour of every day i log in to second life. today i got a notice from the Toi Store where they had some cute wooden block necklaces at cheap prices a while ago, and i remembered liking the idea of the store, so I went back when the notice said lips with free things in them!!!! and i got this awesome lunchbox! Toi himself was in store when i showed up and he passed me ANOTHER super cutey lunchbox (kungfu style) in addition to this free marilyn monroe themed one you can pick up in the "hidden" lips...tiny store, so go knock yourself out "hunting" :D and speaking of hunts, i'm pictured here in some of the lovely floral seats around Ohana Isle for the Eolande's sponsored hunt, which sidetracked me when i went to check out the lucky chairs (candy hearts jewelry now featured) and the GLHunt box in Eolande's...she is having her own hunt and you just walk around looking for little pink hearts with white titles indicating their number, then bam, you have a folder of new accessories and jewels GOODY!!!!%@$ the delicate floral arrangements in the garden here lent themselves perfectly to the bright red in the outfit and hair i am wearing, the bikini was a subscribo gift from Scarlia in the past but the boots and hair (Diversity Hair valentine gift right in front in store) are both free prizes found amidst the ongoing hunts/freebie blogging frenzy of the season. this skin too, was a miasnow dollarbie around christmas time. in fact, the only things not free that i'm wearing in these images are the tattoo (Truth), the skull bracers from Dirty Lynx, and the scripted color change/size reset hearts belt from GrueLing designs. no cash to spend? that's ok, Dirty Lynx has lucky chairs in two locations (see sidebar links) and Grue is gifting a pair of heart and diamond earrings in store now so hurry and go! underlayer gloves free at one point from Retox, hunt gift maybe? boots just came to my attention in another note that i've since deleted, free on the pedestal in Dominion shopping district.

i have 101 121 176 [and i'm exhausted from all the kissing] sets of lips now. wow that sounds really bad. anyway!!!! i cannot for the second life of me decide what to put on, there is an overwhelming amount of awesomeness now. i'ma steal a trick from miss pru and ask you what you want to see or you know, give me a song title, or a lyric or something to go on and i'll create something themed to it. just so....in love with all the freeness right now, it's saving me from going off the deep end and binge buying to replace the hole in my inventory's lost heart.

how does a lioness hunt?

hunting techniques i use which may be helpful or complementary to your current M.O....

-do not get hung up on the numbers. half the time you're in a different time zone from wherever the designer/store owner is, and you will never get done the hunt if you wait for people to put them out and for you to find them in order, precisely and exactly. also, sometimes you won't be able to find the gift immediately, even if it IS out, in larger stores or more complex/secretive/easily hidden builds. 

-stop every once in a while when you get to a rezzable area or store to open your packages and sort inventory. if theres a picture on the box or in the folder, use it to help you figure out what poorly labeled items/outfits are or look like. this will prevent the hunt inventory from getting out of hand and becoming too overwhelming to even consider sorting later

-also, keep a distinct folder for the hunt itself, a grid wide hunt might warrant it's own folder at least for the weeks or days you are in the process of hunting. for example, i have a Vain Kissed Lips folder atm, and will have a GLH folder tomorrow or whenever for the Greatest Love Hunt. when you're done opening packages and boxes and such, please please please remember to pick up your mess after yourself and before you leave by teleport. i personally think of rezzability in stores as a privilege not a right, and if you leave boxes all over the floor and random objects in dark corners the owners are less likely to keep the privilege available, and you'll have to wait to tp into a sandbox to sort or open anything ever again. keep the original folder with the landmarks to the next prize/hunt location in the hunt's folder. this will help you remember where you've been, which prizes you have, and pick up easily where you may have left off or where gaps in your collection are. also keeping the landmarks as long as the hunt is going on can help you to help your friends and any other fellow hunters if they want or need a landmark to a specific number location or store. 

 

-sort immediately. if you pick up textures or shitty hats or furniture that you know you'll never use, toss it. if it's well made and you just have no use for it, consider putting it into an extras/or trans copies folder, to share with friends who might have a use for the items. 

-set limits. i remember when i was doing both the ghost hunt and the POE globe hunt i tried to go on massive hunting binges and stay on for hours doing nothing but hunting. this will not only exhaust you rl and sl speaking, but it will also jade you on the hunt rapidly. make reasonable averages and quotas for amounts of prizes to gather. let's say the lips hunt goes on for 14 days, two weeks, there's at least 250 lip prizes, 250/14= about 20 lips a day and you're golden.

...more to come. i'm excited again because i've been finding more lucky chairs and freebies in the stores on these hunts. yay, maybe this will dampen my pricey couture shopping impulses in the meantime while i'm busy preying on kissable lips? bah. 

EDIT: where to look, how to find TRULY hidden gifts

1-try looking under, behind, and inside of objects in the store, parcel, or sim.

2-ask a friend, ask the crowd, or ask the owner, they are often hanging around enjoying the festitivites of the hunt themselves and are more than willing to assist you.

3-look all over the store! if it's not obvious in front next to the hunt poster or ad, it's probably hidden so that you will be enticed to explore the store. for a lot of these designers it is their first participation in an event this big and they are hoping to get their products and style of design across to the large audiences that come through. popping the gift right outside the door means you probably won't even look around, be honest!!!!

-if all else fails, you can give wireframe mode a shot. this will highlight literally the erm, wired frames of each object so it's transparent you kinda might trip out doing this the first time but if you start to hallucinate too badly and can't see the objects you're hunting for any better this way, just undo it. ctrl+shift+R to set it on and off the same way. 

duplicates! (and group guilt)

bah. so...i feel really bad i just had to leave the lately formed Uncle Wiggily in Michigan group for group slot reasons, fucking christ this is getting old quick. i got invited to another friend's group and don't want to appear uninterested so i have to go to my groups list and narrow it down to one i can delete without wasting the pay fee or the special invitation/group invite process, and i'm almost up to 24 of those anyway as it is. SO ANNOYING. i'm pissed off for other reasons too, but the clothes i'm in don't reflect that at all. i love emotional irony as expressed through clothing. especially works on second life, since the clothes are so detailed and artful. like those of miss michigan, esme michigan of Uncle Wiggily fame. i ran into her whilst collecting some new dollarbies blogged on the free blogs and sat about chatting and figuring out where to put the cutesy framed pictures in the new store location in maske. i commented that esme's use of prints and dress styling reminds me of the real life clothing line Anthropologie (Urban Outfitters' girlier, classier older sister) and esme was flattered, but i think the comparison holds. thank god, however, that her prices are more affordable than the real life store, because there are not only so many goodies to be had all over the locations of Uncle Wiggily now spread across the grid but you can also buy the full price items at a very reasonable price point, once again between 50-160L for shirts, skirts, dresses and tops of the most divine textures and prints you could imagine in any world. this is what i love most about esme's creations. there is a natural beauty, and a literal naturalism to the patterns she chooses and she's only just begun her work really, the store is relatively new to second life and already her work is impeccable and tasteful while still providing feminine, girly options for more than affordable cost. here i am at the latest store location i chanced upon, complete with posed/animated furniture for my photoshoot primping ponce purposes. i'm starting to think i don't even need to learn photoshop, if i keep finding awesome niches in stores with this sort of objects.  note how i am curled up in the fetal position crying about my lost inventory still in one picture? yeah. i'm trying to think how to e-therapy this issue but i'm not sure spending lindens in another shopping binge is the right idea given that the whole problem revolves around there being absolutely no offline way to backup inventory. speaking of shitty customer service. *coughs loudly like an emphysema patient*

hmm, so i'm trying my best not to just totally overlap with everything free blogged while i shop, but it's criminal to overlook the free and lucky chair finds that are just so damn awesome. here's one such outfit from another designer friend i've already posted about before but this newest dress on the lucky board at WhoNose is just too darling to miss. i'm stalking the lucky board at WigWamBam which Ding found and blogged here but in the meantime there's awesome deco here and a martini glass with poses, among other things like pink curtains, pink frames, pink pink pink!!! this dress may not be pink itself but the whole look screams doll and very pretty doll at that. i think full retail this is only like 100L or so, so even if you don't have the patience to wait for a lucky prize go ahead and scoop up this goodie. Rarurick Ragu, the designer, has just started her store this year but already the whole line is very well done, skirts come with resize scripts, everything is totally as it should be for the top of the line designer items, but it's just raru! yay! there's also a bunch of cute outfits set as dollarbies, and dresses range from 25-100L so very affordable, all of them cute in their own styles. check it outttt y'all.

one awesomely shitty outfit

omfg time kids. this is by far the most personally amusing outfit i've found in second life in a year. the cheeseburger outfit from starlust motel lobby for 1L prudence showed me is up there too but this...this is the shit, literally@!%%

while i was at the LA street scene hunt for little floating hearts (take a while to rezz, be patient, there are at least 12 or so at my last check) i went into The Sea Hole which i had seen before in a stall somewhere at a japanese mall sim but in this store i also found SKINS! the amazing skin i blogged in the last post was on the upper level of the LA street location store, and downstairs is filled with the Sea Hole's own unique brand of flare..including this freaking stellar and, as i noted in title, AWESOMELY SHITTY "toilet love set". and look! the brown subscribo gift boots from Truth are a perfect shade of poo too...yay! skin is one of the whole store of amazing skins from ti'ko who recently gave out a dollarbie skin in each of the sets available now in store for full price. checking my notices pays off immensely in the form of freebies/cheapos...then i go and ruin it all by buying all the full price packs anyway :/ jewelry is from violet voltaire, as usual, it goes with everything! like i said a million times already.

OR....OR you could just go to these easy chairs, and hang out with the thrillingly fun and rejuvenatingly charming owners and artists behind the prizes. i swear on my mother, i showed up at Prelude and polaire started rigging the lucky board so me and one other shopper got every single prize on wildcard :O some people are too nice. shouted at me, "it's only pixels" but i countered that IT IS ART!!!! and free art, well, that's like, so po-po-mo-mo it's very me-me. 

i also had the pleasure of encountering miss dream fizzle for the second time after a brief but stimulating reparte when i spotted her and her sister miss paisley mizin at the sugar mill shops on saturday browsing the 1/2 off sales carts. i bought some violet voltaire pieces i didn't have yet there for half price, my folder is growing...i will probably have the whole store soon, yay for compulsive collection-ists! and goshdarnit, if these sisters have their way, i will get my whole folder of Sisters goodies back too. dream has three sisters on second life and they are ALL wildly talented. this is another family, an actual one, that would be a well...dream to be in :) ran into these lovelies at the store last night while i was stalking the chair which has TWO adorable dresses, the chocolate lace and the dotty dress, both blogged on free blogs already. but here's an upcoming release from Sisters that Dream shared with me and i'm happily blogging because it is, as she said herself, SOOO kawaii, the candy textures on the skirt and the multiple options of styles for the skirt itself are so versatile especially at this season...easily paired it up with some hearts and cupcakey jewelry from violet as well. the socks i'm wearing are from sister paisley, who works wonders with textures and prints just like dream does with the dresses at sisters but she has her own store closeby in starlust at Sock Shop where you can find these and many other adorable print tights, socks and leggings. i also was commenting to dream about the greatly appreciated affordability of her and many other artists in starlusts vendors and stores (dresses and sets around 100-200L total), and she quipped simply that she is a populist and believes in making things available to everyone, and i applaud this principle in herein disclosing to you this personal pricing policy....you should absolutely go to these stores and look around even if you're essentially on a freebie budget because there are often sales and 10L items as well as the lucky chair prizes and the charming company. i've paired the outfit from these sisters with an equally bright and yummy skin i found in the LA street scene hunt but it's not free, it was in the Sea Hole store and it's hand drawn by Drinkenstein Sorbet...check out the detail in the makeup, the color scheme and YES, theres even drawing on the ears of this skin! love love love. more than three loves. also sporting the ever fab jewelry of Sanu, this is the tiniest bunneh choker group gift, which might still be in notices, and every time we hit 50 more members sanu goes crazy and gives gifts that keep giving when in inventory...so do the smart thing now and join, everything she makes (NOT LIMITED TO JEWELRY) is fun and cute, and you're seeing it all over the place now too. finally finished off with whipped cream on top...i mean, the awesome cupcake group gift hair from TEKUTEKU rather. 

if your thing is conspicuous consumption though, i can help you out there spending your lindens as well...may i recommend Sissy Pessoa's Baiastice and while you're there check out the whole sim for very hot haute. sissy makes everything from ballgowns to avant garde sculpted outfits anywhere from retro to mod to vintage if those are different things to you then yay! whatever the label, sissy makes simply divine clothes, but they go beyond clothes sometimes to tell a story like the recent group gift the chocolate set. there's also the gorgeous much blogged skin in group notices, so if you're smart and can practice tact and maybe the slightest bit of brownnosing, you should send Miss Sissy a notecard pleading to be included in her world of fashion. you will get a new splendid gift every month that is always always always blogged, and ever stunning. i've paired some pieces of purchased outfits at the store in the last picture with another set of Paisley's socks that match perfectly with a freebie corset cami from Jezabel Rock that i've accumulated through various Razor Mall hunts. on mah feets are some hot latex boots from SHI where you can find all kinds of kink and fetish gear but mainly some killer dom boots for the days you're feeling like a BOSSY bitch. key from violet voltaire. hair was 111L per color at kosh's half off sale but SO perfect for valentine's day, y'all need to thank sileny over at Love/Hate for this find. yay stalker ladies.

things are coming together finally with my inventory, sorting and chair stalking and fishing have built it up to something pretty incredible, and SORTING and deleting is e-cathartic in it's own way. while i miss what i lost, and want it back for obvious reasons, the new folders and new stores and new designers i'm (re/) discovering at the moment are thrilling and exciting enough to tide me over for...well probably at least another year. on that note, cheers, and please go stalk these stores, because you will not regret it, and you may even chance upon some amazing people throwing cute gifts at you in the process.

oh hai. this is my valentines day tribute. bloody mess as you see. i obviously have no valentines, for the twenty-fifth year in a row. i think it's funny that there's an anne hathaway pose out that surmises her as somehow adorable....went to school with her for a few years she is NOT an angel. the first pose pretty much screams to me: "PLEASE DON'T ASK ME TO COMMENT ON WHY I DATE SHITTY PRICKS" which is sad because at vassar there really are no straight guys so how would you learn? anyway, here i am on the previously mentioned giant crab in starlust. and that's pretty much what i am today. giant crab. speaking of which one of the schadenfreude critters is a red crab, among other colors, that i nicknamed Miss Crabby, and she sits on my shoulder to defend me from griefers.
