it's almost my birthday again. call it serendipity, i did a unicorn post my last birthday... here i am in another unicorny moment. linked the unicorns last birthday post as well, i'll use a different song this year. i dunno if i'm a sea ghost really, probably more like a land ghost, but definitely ghosting out. i shot this aimed up at the sky because the background in the sim wasnt working for me, did one processing tweak in picnik and i really like how blazingly bright but at the same time muted it turned out.

i'd like to think that all of this constant interaction is just the kind to make you drive yourself away. each simple gesture done by me is counteracted and leaves me standing here with nothing else to say. completely baffled by a backward indication that an inspired word will come across your tongue. hands moving upward to propel the situation have simply halted and now the conversation's done.

having long since given up on the humans in second, not to mention first life, most of what i do in world is stand around lucky chairs sorting my hoardings. i know every fashionista can relate to the feeling of having "just one more folder" to sort before you log, pee, drink, or leave to do something else. which easily results in hours spent just..staring at a tee shirt waiting for the texture to rez. i have taken my sorting cues from miss radio who is very wise, and has her stuff arranged by colo(u)rs. staring at the monitor at 4 am trying to discern if a tee shirt qualifies as blue or purple or brown or white or grey or black has become my biggest complaint. ask ban, ask tazzy, i have been known to rant in twelve dozen offline messages about how my eyes are bleeding because i can't pick between the pink or purple folder for a piece of pixel clothing. i'm beginning to think there are cultural and personal distinctions in color perceptions....one persons blue is anothers purple. white actually means beige to some people. grey is good enough to be black for most. me? i'm anal. i would never deny the fact. at the end of the night at least i can laugh at myself for actively becoming annoyed at color conflicts in my sorting. and anyway, you can always just tint yr pics in picnik to be any hue of the rainbow. this post is just as meaningless as the distinctions in color labeling. yay!

so, while the picture here looks like what *I* would call beige or brown, the clothes in world are actually all white. yay! absence of color. one of the easier to decide upon folders for.

american idol is making me mainstream...so sad. end of an era, and all that. :(

i never got to post the pics i took with the new smashface/domestic-v group gift skin. i put another love note in my mouth, this one was from the cupids heart hunt. if you notice a trend here, i am 9 years behind in tv trends, 16 months behind on electronic trends, 6 months behind on second life trends, a week or a month behind in posting 'new' second life items, and about two years behind in musical trendiness. according to the psychologist kid from bones, consistent lateness is an unconscious attempt to assert control. i don't know what my point was. maybe that i have a very small brain space for short term memory.

i serendipitously discovered my own partners love note nom for me today, in an xmas gift package, because miss tazzy tried to gift me the same thing. i love that when people see a wacky d-lab cat with ao inclusive they automatically think of me. twice. that's real love! anyway, cats aside, this is the tender little mouth food ban made me. love you pooker snookers, schnuckem bums lumpy lums, etc etc ad infinitum. and yes, i respond to okre. even okra. even orca.

this lovely skin is from the leafy lucky chair preview of her new line of skins. it's perfect! hair is a well known favorite Sixty Nine group gift from xmas-ish. eyes are some of the lovely prim brightened ones from Plastik. and the ears are the final tipping point that led me down into the depths of elfdom, i know, it's trendy, but these Schadenfreude plugged elfies are killing me with cute. hud to change skin tone, plug color, and jewelry, anch changes distinct from the piercings even. sooooo much matchy matchy potential perfection. /end rant.

the thing that i enjoy most about pixel shopping in second life is how you can find anything you can imagine, and loads of things you never could have imagined because the ideas didn't come from your brain initially, which consequently makes them original (at least to you, and at least as long as you don't see them pop up three and four times in various ripped off incarnations). the best in second life pixels surely qualify as art.

i usually peruse flickr streams bitching and moaning to myself the whole time about how i should have learned photoshop long ago when i could process all the tricky stuff. one of my favorite things to run across other than amazingly manipulated images are a different and arguably more traditional type of artistry where people draw a sketch and then pixelate it and create it in world with sculpts and prims and textures...they have even been quite good in world, even been quite faithful to the original image. but the sequence of events starting with this picture radio drew and posted on flickr moved at lightning speed, i was really impressed how rapidly she translated a sketched image into the resulting outfit. all artsy fartsy gushing aside, you get to wear spots on your bum! who doesn't like that?

i am always excited when i find bizarre and random things for sale on second life. i even wear them once i buy them! go figure. using the drunk ao again and this toilet paper couture from rbcg. with the cupcakes january group gift was apparently too obvious a joke for some ladiez who clearly didn't appreciate the artistry behind sharpie-faced skins and hand drawn toilet paper texturing. i stand by my comment to the humorless womynz that this is honestly how i imagine most second lifers end up on a weekend evening. i know you all keep a real life roll of electrical tape to pastie your boobs too, don't lie!^$%

i have haiti related lyrics but it's gza and it's not particularly nice so i'll just leave that tendency to the side today. other tendencies indulged with the red cross donations/sales items are mouth foods! this red cross tag [buy from Lucky #7 vendor] is one of at least TWO mouth noms i saw in the scribble skybox, which i'm happy to see has blossomed from one room into two since its inception. the mouth tag also comes with a leg/belt thing that hangs at your pocket or wherever you position it, and at 49L it's the perfect charity cheapie. i'm also wearing the 50L H.O.D. To Love Rosary, also a red cross item in the skybox. the dress comes in a set with these cute red cross kneed socks and is yet another haiti relief item you can find at Lark's new mainstore build. after a recent conversation about how i'm always 18 months behind electronic trends it comes as no surprise to myself that i've only finally indulged elfdom and donned some elf ears [buried]. an accumulation of decent freebies necessitated a subsubfolder of its own which subsequently necessitated wearing a pair for once. which actually led to my PURCHASING a pair too, the stumblebum schadenfreude pair to be precise, i hope to use those soon in some hideously bright array. speaking of hideously bright, i found this rainbow on the new sim build for ANA mations, and i figured rainbows could go with red crosses in symbolizing hope. here's hoping that people don't forget about haiti again in 12 months until another 100K people die next time.

i remember being 18 and drunk in the snow in montreal, trying to find a way back to the holiday inn with my best friend at the time. after pitchers of sangria and hours of giggling about the fact that we could drive all the way to canada and still only get hit on by creepy mexican dudes we stumbled out of the peel street pub and started drifting into snowbanks on the sidewalks. we ended up on a bench at a bus stop on catherine street, pretending it was normal to wait in a snowy seat for a bus that wasn't even coming. that was almost ten years ago, and i feel incredibly old. at least i've given up the bottle, hopefully for good...it was getting tedious having to explain random bruises and how i got into a terrible argument with a tree in brooklyn in another instance. that being said it was still fun to watch my virtual self stumble around with the Abranamations advent calendar 'drunk ao' (includes gigantic head sized bottle of merlot). i find with a series of really great animations there's no need to use individual poses, and these are two of my favorite candid moments from what i snapped.

so today seems to be about depression awareness. funny, i am keenly aware of it everyday. it doesn't take a genius to surmise that i've dealt with my share of mental illness. being depressed is like being in a tunnel where you can't see the light at the end. the quandary becomes pretending that you can see the light well enough to walk towards it. if a light exists at the end of the tunnel but you've become blind, does it still shine? instead of more rhetorical musings i'll leave you with one of my favorite songs about suicide.

hai! that looks like it says "sweatier than you" *frownface*

this sweater inspired everything subsequently involved in this outfit. it's called 'sweater than me' and it really is. this was some form of gift from Agent Orange, possibly still in the subo? a store definitely worth visiting though, frequent gifts, hunt prizes, a midnight mania and lucky chairs in store to boot. i didn't do it complete justice in my shots but there are a row of vertical prim buttons and a bow at the base of the cropped top that are just *perfect* in addition to easily adjusted shoulder poof sleeve prims, and i am the prim princess & the pea, subpar prims make me more frowny. it's also a really elegant and saturated hue of blue and i paired it up with this gorgy skin called 'liefde kus pale' from rbcg.'s previous lucky chair. the chair is gone now but krysten has put out a weekly gift in store in a box on the front desk for the past few weeks and her gadgets comprise some of my favorite accessory goodies lately (the addiction hunt gift at rbcg. is a set giant smoking pipes in your choice of crack or pot). she also has gifts at the end of the admittedly challenging thibedeau HUD hunt, and if anyone needs help you can holler at me, i really love to be helpful, honest! hair is "50K (sugar)" a past dollar gift from @waffles which can probably still be had. bracelet is an old staple from Gritty Kitty. with the faded driftwood hair and the pale skin and blueness i decided to shoot at AM Radio's The Space Between these Trees again up on a hill facing an expanse of wavey water. sweatily pretty, hurrah.

so i tried to learn photoshop...by begging lessons off strangers. which turned into a brief night or two of attempting gimp cross operating systems with a very well intentioned lucky chair stalker helping me out with pointer arrows in world and a lesson board set up in her work space but to no avail...i couldn't even get the transparency options to stick with outlining a basic close-up snapshot. that's the dozen or so hot green background pics of a nutty nurse in my flickr photostream. but flickr actually led me to something i *can* use and it's so freaking easy it's pathetic actually. i'm super stoked about PICNIK, it's got a sidebar full of editing tools and just tweaking levels and stuff is really laid out well for a technical n00b like myself. here's some of my first edits! i'm including the original shots for comparison. i know my aesthetics are not always on the level with others' but i hope i can at least demonstrate how easily you can improve an in world snapshot with this stuff.

i love SL artist collaborations. you always get a magnification of the greatness of each individual designer when crossed in combinations. sometimes the themes are predictable but the clincher for me was that this Designers United event centered on something rather abstract and random...jellyfish! such a beautiful looking creature, and all the sale items are uniquely fascinating just like the animals themselves. i saw the ohmai dress and the pig shop head and thought, i have to put them together. you will feel that way about the whole area of goods though, it seems like the minds really melded together for this effort and if i had the cash i'd buy every single thing there. check out all the fabulous photos infinitely better than my snapshots already uploaded of these items on the Designers United Flickr group. the event ends on the 25th so don't be a procrastinatory pothead like some people....like people who leave their blogs empty for almost a month at a time. i don't know anyone like that!

i've taken to shooting my in world snapshots almost exclusively at AM Radio's awesomely detailed sims. there's at least three or four and if you look in AM's profile you can visit all of the quirky whimsy that i find so enchanting about each build. there's special free gifts scattered all over the place in each unique scene and a lot of the objects have interactive animations, like this windmill i found with the option to send myself flying in circles.

i got partnered last weekend! and people say i have no friends. wrong! i have *one* friend. we were wondering if there's such a thing as an SL registry, so you can get people to buy you 'wedding presents.' which would only be as much of a hoax for free shit as real weddings. no, less of a hoax even. the average american family spends 4.5 million lindens on their wedding, typically plunging a substantial portion of them into immediate shared debt. the divorce rates are lower theses days because people can't afford to pay the legal fees to file divorce papers and get through the proceedings. depressions of all sorts are great ways to manifest love...aren't they just? i will still be partnered in sl when you can all finally afford to start filing your rl divorces. makes me feel like a fuzzy bunny.

i think i wound up in this skin because i get frustrated trying to organize skins, and i still have scattered folders of hundreds of skins floating around confusing me and defying categorization. while it is hideously monstrous it's also fucking rad. it's a past freebie or chair prize from amplify called 2 faced skin, so you may already have it and just not know! i took inspiration from the dichotomy expressed in the skin and decided to go super pink and pretty with the rest of the outfit just to confuse anyone who might suspect i was dressing intentionally fuglily. these frilly pink capris come with two cuff options and are currently in rotation with some other great prizes at the MNK*shop lucky chair. the top is part of a one piece swimsuit Twosome offers/ed for RFL this year. on my head is one of the magika hair fair freebies, candy in light pink. the script clickee broken/unbroken pearls were a previous lucky chair gift from Caroline's where you can still find a lucky chair with really well sculpted and textured jeweled goodies. the barracuda onion staff is from an old friend who's store is now called Sour Puss, where there is ALSO a lucky chair for some accessory fun. and finally the crown is Morrigan's Black Canary Divine Right mini crown which is from the greatest love hunt last february. believe it or not even in this skin i still got dudes angling their sad compliments, the best attempt was "wow, you don't look like a barbie!" well shucks man, that's totally what i was going for....

something about subtle violence on second life is so much more sexy than overt abuse. that's why i like to just walk around with a cutesy axe in my hand or wander aimlessly with blood oozing out of my avatar's nose. this outfit is an old freebie from Dreamin'g Alice, which is still available in store. there's a dark and a pure alice dress set available which technically i filed under costumes: literary. also shown is the Independence Day gift skin from [Atomic] in cream. the make up and face detail is really gorgeous so i apologize for selectively only showing half of it but i also love me some aggressive bangs. the bangs belong to another free gift, this is one of the hairs in Magika's golden scissors hunt. these red boots from JAS drip particle blood droplets but the invisiprimishness makes it hard to photograph in world. trust me though, just the right amount of macabre. the eyelashes. always with the eyelashes. this is a viewer issue i saw before the jira votey thing supposedly fixed it and the skin/hair related problems. i just noticed it again when i bought a pack of skins that highlighted the screwiness and clumpy-looking phantom eyelashes that appear with some skins. once i saw that, i started trying on other skins, switching shapes, whatever basic things to rebake and such, got a whole bunch of advice from random friends and strangers, and none of it has worked. the most helpful thing said was that i shouldn't worry about it because it's only me noticing it. but srsly. that's the ONLY thing that matters. *I* notice it. and it drives me crazy the entire time i'm logged in.

anyway, i won an amazing set of sanu's new jewelry, the avalon set in elaborate form! all i had to do was try my luck scooting around the store looking for the one-time hidden candies, the hidden items change with each new release and someone gets lucky, but it was never me before yesterday! this is what prompted my anger with the eyelashes, because i want to take close ups of the nose-stud, and...well i'm growing ever pickier and more detail oriented as my fashion studies continue in this pixel world. anyway, you can clearly see how gorgeous the Sanu jewels are, despite my ongoing battle with snapshots and in-world appearance editing.

RFL keeps giving me good excuses to spend money in world. The latest example would be this amazingly queer pink Derby Girl outfit from Katat0nik, on sale for 350L at the Fashion Expo at Kat's installment. This set is for team Pink Taco, although there is also an equally gay offering for Team Khorndog. There's a bunch of rainbow/pride/queer stuff coming out for Second Life Pride purposes, which is not only inspiring but also snarky! Worth mentioning are the offerings from a couple other vendors, like Figure 8, who are sharing a rainbow lego-link bracelet and a tee that says "Straight But Not Narrow" for only 8L (also shown on Free*Style by Miss Casia.) Today I also received a notecard for more snark, this time from Nomine, who have rainbow skins for free in the new releases section as well as another tee, this one says "Not gay as in happy, but queer as in FUCK YOU." Slowly, but surely, the internet is becoming an OK place to be gay.

it started innocently enough. i was in my corsets folder finding something to matchy matchy with the wide range of patchwork colors in this Rag Kitty outfit (including rad tail!) from Bitch Tail, which was on a MM that someone at a board i was at was wearing. got that? the outfit has since changed but i had to have this colorful bit of raggedy goodness. i pulled up selena's Sasquatch Bloody Corsets folder, also once a MM, and w00t for color matching with the green. well a little blood on the top had to be explained visually with blood on the skin so i ended up back at MiaSnow's Bloody Pleasure 4, once a chair item i believe, but still on sale for really reasonable skin prices, and so much original art put into each unique set. then it gets messy.

you all know i kind of hop manically around the grid freebie and chair stalking. i use my own sidebar (yes, i made my own page my jump off) to keep up with chronologically organized free blog postings and a couple random friends blogs. so i was amidst a post on Ashia's Inventory Episode blog where she found a super smexeh black outfit for free at a new store Anik:Anarchy. I'm helping to paint the grid parple, in Dream's Parple Dress from Sisters. I was helped along with the parpling by Inorite who sent out a subscribo gift of ten plus hairs all in this lush deep purple. Butterfly hair clip was once a group gift from Swallowtail who also made this lovely matching necklace. Shoes change between 30 different colors in a HUD and they're from Schadenfreude. This latest group gift from Cupcakes has all tones including sambuca as shown with a pale green/purple combo makeup. Had major fun setting up chairs and stuff in this skybox from Prudence's Patchwork lucky chair, there's three skyboxes to be had!

I'm not clear on *why* purple was selected to show solidarity in the fight against cancer but it is a lovely color which I have officially granted favorite status, and I guess it beats wearing ash grey like the inside of my lungs from smoking.

speaking of pollution! this outfit is compiled of some adorable and some heinous garbage. the clothes are "seattle's basic outfit" from rotten toe and i do feel like i should be in a gutter somewhere in washington state shooting up in this stuff. added a wooden leg from pididdle to class it up. and of course every hobo has to have a backpack...mine just happens to be the incredibly detailed, super super super photo-real looking tinman selection from rebel-x for the magic of oz baum birthday bash. this dude is totally hollow inside too so he makes a great stashbox. this hair is "destroy" from gauze and it was relatively cheap taking into account the price per unit of awesome.

no, literally. i get my music from commercials these days. i think it's funny too. fully willing to and capable of laughing at myself. ipod ads used to do it for me, now this bacardi ad has matt and kim in it...i thought finally graduating from vassar and leaving new york state i could avoid brooklyn hipsters....watch out, soon they'll be in toyota ads competing with whatever sad sap billy corgan can write these days. on that note, csi: ny played radiohead in their finale episode, and yes, i died. 'course it was a death scene. radiohead + death = brilliance. they've also been heavy on the ratatat this season, methinks someone from WVKR is mastering the music choices.

so i was raving about the tyranny skins. scooped myself a fatpack of fifteen for starters and i'm in e-lurve. one of my favorite makeups is this 'carnivale' selection and i went all the way with the carnivalism, adding some green hair, the tiny bird 'stein' in allegory (green). then i had to sort through my schadenfreude stuff to see what i could pair with the hair named after the creator and boom, the lime tease outfit appeared, hidden in my green dresses folder. i like that you can basically pinpoint who the creators of some things are on second life by the color variations they use. allegory's green, hya's blue, violet's purple, etc. expect to see me wearing the heck out of these new skins in the near future.

It is my birthday today. I've survived 26 years of Real Life! Today also marks 10,000 hits on this blog, which seems silly to me because I really haven't said much of anything. Started a bit of shit here and there but that's part and parcel of Second Life Life, no? I contemplated dressing up as a cupcake or some kind of food item but lapsed back into Katat0nik cup-cakey-ness in the form of this RFL cupcake dress. Skin is a past SOM gift from Tyranny, where there's also new skins in the chairs right now and they are divine, and pale, for all the ridiculous racists. The new line's in vendors around the chair (titled "Dirty Debutante") and shows a great variety of outrageous and loud makeups which you KNOW makes me happy. Also wearing the Catnip Unicorn horn/tail/hoofers in silver. And another set of eyes from House of Ruin. Oh, and chibi wings from Pink Fuel, peeking out the back in one image.

Legal conflicts? Like, your not being able to fire people based on their being gay? Having to provide health care to the queers? What legal conflicts are these, and could they possibly ever be larger than "traditional marriage"s divorce proceedings.

I am in lots of wings again. I am definitely not religious, in fact I categorize myself as a "devout athiest" but I think there are living angels, and yeah, my cat was one of them. If the term dark angel wasn't so tainted by crappy television shows i might have described this outfit as such. I guess I'm just doing generic gothiness now. There's nothing generic about the fashion items though, like these bat fairy wings from Seven Seas. Sometimes people compliment me on my wings asking where they're from and then balk when they think it's made by the fishing people. Well, the "fishing people" make wings! Awesome, spectacular, and diverse sets of wings, all of the same quality as this pair, all in packs of dozens of color options. Beware wing lovers if you buy the Full Demo Set, as I have the folder saved and intend to go back and buy basically ALL of them now. Hooves are Ungulate Cloven in black, a set from Lazy Places, my favorite hoof furnishers on the grid. This is a red Magika hair called Bork, and the skin is Dead Dreamer from MiaSnow. I just snagged these horns in a sale recently, they're called "sinner horns" and i feel sinner-like that I can't recall the store name atm. The suit is from Silent Sparrow, and I almost wish I could organize a funeral for our lost friend this week, but in the meantime I will just dress like I'm going to one, nonstop, on Second Life, as some kind of detached indication of my ongoing sorrow. I miss him so much already...

i like to infect my friends with my feline obsession. freshman year i made a friend who ended up drawing me all these awesome pictures, several from pictures of my cat i shared with him. theo was a huge personality, he had so much love to share with everyone he ever met. thom gave my whole family an incredible gift by drawing these pictures, my mom has one framed in her house and we will use them in the future to remember theo fondly as the charismatic life force he was.

i went back for this, all the way back to my neko-ness (mixed with unicornaphernalia of late), which is how i pretty much started my fashion journeys in second life. i bet a lot of people say that. i have heard critique of nekos like, oh, put on some ears, and you think you're a playboy bunny....but that's not exactly what it was for me. given the existing premise of me being crazy, let me say here that i have always thought of myself as part cat. i was raised in a crib with a cat sleeping next to me, i struggled through high school relying on a cat for emotional support...i feel very strongly in what i guess could most closely be described as a spiritual sense that part of me is feline. the worship of cats goes back to the egyptians, and that's just in the scope of documentable history. in my life, cats are living gods, or demons, spirits bigger than human souls, embodied in sleek beauty. today i lost a good friend, and he was a cat. excuse me if i go neko for a bit in nerdy memoriam. camera is MIA but when i get it back i want to post the most adorable picture of theo in bunny ears. he had a great sense of humor, and he will be missed desperately.

Why do you shop at crappy stores? Seriously. The chair groups introduce you to probably thousands of stores, among which maybe a few hundred have stuff worth keeping and collecting. Not only that but the free blogs show a plethora of bonafide, verified, decent stuff (well, some of it at least) and you can pick and choose from what's already pictured in order to judge quality....in general the quality of the clothes is inversely related to the photoshop skill level of the blogger. The better it looks in a picture, the more edited the image looks, the less likely it is to actually look good in world. If someone is poor at photoshop but the clothing still looks good, that's when you can tell the object is worth scooping up. I am constantly amazed, shifting around chair calling groups, how many n00b skin packs people want to snag from midnight manias, how shittily constructed a sculpted set of shoes people are DYING for you to come flip the chair on. Furthermore, I'm getting peeved with the friend factor....you post boards and promos for stores of your besties, and your boyfriend, and your girlfriend, and your sl mother and daughter's stores....well I hate to point this out, but they are crap too. Then there's group joins, people randomly spamming you to join the groups for these same shitty places where there isn't even a single item I would wear in store. And notices. More, and more, and more notices with or without notecards, equally offensive really, where when I open the notecard and click on the texture advertising the product and my jaw actually drops thinking "WHO WANTS THIS? NOT I!" This is actually true of FashCon too. I have spoken on numerous occasions with friends about how much of a waste of time 90% of the fashcon notices are...again when you open the notecard and browse the offerings you should be stunned at how poor the quality is and some of the asking prices to go with these items. Now I know I don't have to go, buy, or participate in any of this. I guess I'm just bewailing a total lack of taste in the general population of Second Life "fashionistas." Please stop promoting CRAP. Thank you.

i get so many free mini dresses, i sometimes forget about the ones i've actually paid for amidst the overwhelmingness of this particular subfolder. this fishy strawberry lil black number holds up, and puts enough of a dark tinge on otherwise springy clothes for me to be pleased with the look that i built off of it. i put a darker side hair with the dress, from a midnight mania board of all places. the hair falls on the same spot on my avi's butt as the dress does, which i found amusing. i put on the black swan lashes from [glow] studio with an old gift skin from [the obscene], and donned the hooker heels (heel-less heels? what would you call those) i just scooped up from kookie. to be a bit festive in the spirit of spring i've got the floral but still dark chained freebie necklace from SWNN free in a gloomy corner filled with freebies in harold and some hot pink bangles from ticky tacky to complete this sorta hippy street whore look.
